Abstract
Oracle8i provides a virtual private database
feature that is used as a key means of attaching a security
policy directly to a table or view. Through the virtual private
database feature you can create a contextual environment for
each application that may be used against the database. Complex
rules can be shared by multiple tables and views and can be
combined with the ability to set up the users environments
at logon time. This leads to the strict enforcement of security
rules no mater what tool is used. This paper will show the
steps of several scenarios, utilizing database event triggers
and the virtual private database feature that could help to
enforce the security in a Human Resources (HR) type application.
